GSC Expands Interview Requirements to Additional Key Personnel

Effective immediately, the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission ("GSC") has expansion of its interview process to include Deputy MLROs, AML/CFT Compliance Officers, and AML/CFT Nominated Officers.
This extension aligns with the GSC’s continued commitment to strengthening AML/CFT governance across the regulated gambling sector. The interviews, conducted by the GSC’s AML/CFT inspections team, aim to foster open dialogue and improve understanding of regulatory expectations between the public and private sectors.
However, we also suspect these interviews are intended to act as a safeguard against the appointment of unsuitable senior compliance personnel. The competence of senior compliance staff is an issue repeatedly highlighted in GSC public notices. It is reasonable to assume, then, that the GSC has concerns about the calibre of individuals holding key compliance roles. By extending formal interviews to more senior compliance positions, the GSC is likely aiming to address a potentially systemic issue in a structured and proactive manner.
What to Expect
Interviews will be arranged on a case-by-case basis, usually during initial onboarding, role changes, or ad-hoc when specific issues arise.
Exit interviews may also be offered when individuals step down from their positions.
No retrospective interviews are planned. Only future appointments and changes will be subject to this process.
While the interviews are not expected to delay regulatory processes, license holders are encouraged to be prepared for these additional touchpoints when making changes to AML/CFT-related roles.
The GSC also invites industry feedback on this approach. Questions or comments can be directed to the AML Inspections team via GSCAMLInspections@gov.im.
At SolutionsHub, we welcome this proactive measure as a reasonable step toward upholding the Isle of Man’s reputation as a well-regulated and responsible jurisdiction.
