iGaming Business has published a new opinion article by our CEO, Lee Hills, examining the Gambling Commission’s invitation for the industry to identify areas where regulation is creating disproportionate pressure.
In the article, Lee argues that general frustration will not be enough. Operators need to identify requirements that no longer work as intended, demonstrate the cost or duplication involved and propose practical alternatives that continue to protect the licensing objectives.
The exercise is not a consultation or an opportunity to revisit settled government policy. However, it gives the sector a chance to make an evidence based case for proportionate regulation and to distinguish necessary safeguards from avoidable process.
Lee also considers the role trade bodies can play in coordinating evidence and ensuring that the strongest proposals are supported by more than one operator.
