David Lyons discusses Ireland’s new gambling market with SiGMA

SolutionsHub Non Executive Director David Lyons has spoken to SiGMA News about the challenges facing Ireland as its new gambling regulatory framework takes effect.
The discussion considers some of the central questions facing operators and regulators, including channelisation, enforcement, poker, retail betting and the importance of regulatory certainty as the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland develops the new regime.
David argues that effective regulation needs to balance player protection with the commercial realities of the market, while ensuring that licensed operators can compete effectively with businesses operating outside the regulated system.
He also discusses the importance of evidence, consistency and proportionate enforcement as the Irish framework develops.
David joined SolutionsHub earlier this year to support the development of our Irish operations and help clients prepare for the new regulatory framework. He brings more than three decades of experience across online gaming, financial services and corporate governance, including senior roles with PokerStars, partypoker and VGW.
The latest SiGMA interview follows David’s recent commentary on the key regulatory risks facing Irish operators as licensing begins.
